The project is part of the Mistra Future Fashion program with the mission to close the loop in fashion for a more sustainable industry, an initiative to show people the current situation, but also present better ways to produce clothing.
It is a concept wherein short-life-cycle dresses are designed by a leading fashion brand in Scandinavia and are 100% biodegradable. After wearing the dresses up to three times, they then go off to composting and no unnecessary waste is produced.
This results in fashionable dresses made of Tencel and naturally dyed with food waste, such as beetroot, turmeric, avocado, and red cabbage. The Throw Away Dresses are exhibited in the Center for Circular Design in London to show the world sustainable alternatives for the current fashion industry.
